Week of December 12

This week we will be studying linear functions. Students will find the slope, y-intercept, and x-intercept of a linear function. Slope will be introduced using the slope formula and rise over run. Reminder, the Semester 1 CRT will be given on December 20 and 21.

Week of November 28

Chapter 4 will begin on Monday. Students will interpret graphs. On Tuesday imaginations will be on display. Each student will write a story that correlates to their assigned graph. By the end of the week, students should understand the relationships between tables, graphs, and equations.

Week of November 14

This week we will be solving compound inequalties.

On Tuesday, students will be taking the AMC. AMC is a national math contest designed for students who enjoy solving upper level problems.

We will review chapter 3 in class on Thursday, and there will be a test on Friday!

Week of November 7

This week we will continue studying inequalities. Students should know how to solve multi-step inequalitis by the end of the week. Grade reports are being sent home Monday evening. The reports should be signed and returned.

This week we will continue working on solving and writing inequalities. Classes will be shortened on Tuesday and Wednesday to accomodate the ITBS.

This week we will be finishing Chapter 2. The class will review Chapter 2 on Tuesday. Students will have practice problems for homework Tuesday night. Test will be on Wednesday!

Week of October 17

Remember that there will be NO SCHOOL on October 20 and 21.

This week we will be solving percent problems and looking at ways in which percents are used in finance. The last quiz of the quarter will be on Tuesday covering last week's applications of proportions.

Week of October 10

This week students will discover how proportional reasoning can be used in different careers. We will use goldfish (the food) in class on Wednesday to demonstrate how biologists tag fish to study populations. Later in the week we will measure trees' shadows to help determine the height of the tree. It's a good week to be a scientist in math class!

Week of October 3

This week we will continue working on solving multi-step equations. The class will be solving problems that have variables on both sides of the equations. A small quiz will be given on Wednesday covering Section 2-3.

This week we are practicing solving problems that use the order of operations. Students will apply their knowledge of integers to solve multi-step problems. The class will also be adding to their current understanding of absolute value.

This week in class we will be reviewing integers. Remember to sing your song at home to remember how to add. Towards the end of the week we will be exploring powers and exponents.

Textbooks were handed out today in class. Students observed any minor damages to their books and I recorded the information they gave me. A "Getting to Know You" activity was completed in class. The curriculum will begin tomorrow.

I hope you had an enjoyable summer! My name is Mr. Horstman and I will be your Algebra teacher this year. This is my fifth year teaching in Fremont. I am married and have two daughters. I love sports;the Indianapolis Colts are my favorite team.
